If I tweeted "New app, awesome, come check it out," I'd get roughly 2x the readership of "Follow me on Twitter" or "Click here to check out my latest app." This makes sense, because people don't have email addresses, so twitter is the obvious choice for a new app. But Facebook, in contrast, is "always there," and I find the idea of sending an email seems kind of dorky. Plus, email addresses are much more valuable than a vanity twitter account, because they can be re-used. I feel the same way about my mobile app. I'm not looking to be spammy, but there are real resources being consumed (cell data plans, human attention, etc). Have you thought about contacting your friends directly and asking for their feedback? They're more likely to care about your app in that way. Then again, there's always marketing.
